A next-gen update for Doom Eternal headlines the lineup of new Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S releases for the week commencing June 28, 2021.

We weren’t the biggest fans of Doom Eternal when it released last year for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. In our review, we said, “Doom Eternal features all the raw, raucous action of the 2016 reboot, but for reasons we can’t comprehend, is dragged out to an interminable length.”

All of that holds true, but there’s still lots to enjoy here. If you have the patience to see the game through, the moment-to-moment action is thrilling, Mick Gordon’s score is another corker, and it’s just fun to play a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously. We’re also keen to see how the already impressive visuals are enhanced on Xbox Series X and S.

Spirit of the North and Greedfall also receive next-gen updates next week.

Other new releases include Team Salvato’s genre-bending visual novel Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! and Inti Creates sparkling retro action platformer Blaster Master Zero.

A new crop of games – including Limbo and Gang Beasts – also join the Xbox Game Pass library from July 1.
