Yakuza 6

A 14-minute gameplay video of Yakuza 6 was shown off at PSX at the weekend. It looks very nice indeed.

We find our hero Kazuma Kiryu, The Dragon of Dojima (I don’t ever tire of saying or typing that), alighting in Jingaicho – a small, peaceful village in Hiroshima Prefecture.

Check it out:

Kiryu arrives with a baby in one arm and a sports bag in the other; he clearly has business to attend to, but for us our eyes are drawn, as usual, to the streets.

It looks like an amazing setting, a little rural with a Yokosuka flavour to it, with a harbour, golden lapping water as the sun hangs low in the sky, and winding quaint streets.

As ever, it isn’t long – and there aren’t many places Kiryu can go – before someone a grievance they would like to settle by landing some flush haymakers on him.

The fighting looks fast and more fluid than most western players will be used to off the back of Yakuza 0 and Yakuza Kiwami this year. Kiryu shows off his Dragon fighting style, with a couple of devastating heat moves thrown in for good measure.

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life is scheduled for a March 20th 2018 release for PS4.

We have a favour to ask

Thumbsticks has a couple of main aims. We want to write interesting articles and cover games that most outlets won't, and we want to give opportunities to new writers and new voices. And right now, with the current state of online publishing? It's tough! We hate to ask, but if you want us to continue writing what others won't, or to keep covering weird indie games, or to be able to give opportunities to new writers – and only if you can afford it – then please consider supporting us on Patreon.
