Writer and director, Amy Hennig, is to be honoured at the 19th Annual Game Developers Choice Awards.
Organisers of the Game Developers Choice Awards have announced that Amy Hennig will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at next year’s ceremony. The event takes place on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at the San Francisco Moscone Center, during the 2019 Game Developers Conference.
The award recognises Hennig’s long and varied career, which has seen her serve as the creative director and writer of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted franchise. She also spent time at Crystal Dynamics, where she was writer and director on the Soul Reaver and Legacy of Kain series, and her early career includes work as an artist and animator on games including Desert Strike.
Katie Stern, general manager of the Game Developers Conference, said in a press statement:
“Amy Hennig is a powerful figure in the game world; her work exemplifies what good game narrative can be, with pathos, humor, suspense and energy. She is truly one of the most influential developers in the games industry. These past accomplishments are just milestones in a career that we’ll be following for years to come, but for one night at the GDCAs, we’ll reflect on the hard work and artistry that makes game developers like Amy the heart of the industry.”
Previous recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Award recipients include Shigeru Miyamoto, John Carmack, Tim Sweeney, Hideo Kojima, and Sid Meier, among many others. Last year’s award went to Double Fine’s Tim Schafer.
The recipient is chosen by the Game Developers Choice Special Awards Jury, which includes industry figures such as Chris Charla, Laine Nooney, Brian Reynolds, Brandon Sheffield, and Mare Sheppard.
The Game Developers Choice Awards ceremony is open to all GDC 2019 pass-holders.
