Borderlands 3 is free to play on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 for a limited time and is also getting a big Black Friday discount.

Gearbox Software’s hit looter shooter Borderlands 3 is free to play on console, starting today. Xbox Live Gold, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PlayStation Plus members can play without restriction until Sunday, November 24, 2019.

A free DLC update for the game also arrives today that adds the free challenge, Takedown at the Maliwan Blacksite.

During the event, the base game and its Super Deluxe Edition are also reduced by 33% on the Xbox One Digital Games Store and PlayStation Store. Any achievements and trophies earned during the weekend will carry over to purchased copies of the game.

The free play event was announced on yesterday’s The Borderlands Show. The Kinda Funny-hosted livestream also revealed Borderlands 3’s first paid campaign add-on, Moxxi’s Heist of the Handsome Jackpot.

Borderlands 3 hit PC and consoles in September following five years of development and a slightly rocky promotional cycle. Critical response to the game was muted, but that didn’t stop it selling over five million copies in its first week.
