Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 demo is live on Switch

Dark Light

A free demo is now available for Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 on Nintendo Switch.

Best friends Mario and Sonic team up for another sports jamboree next month in Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. It’s the sixth mainline game in the series and for our money, it’s looking like the best entry yet.

If you want to try it for yourself, a free demo is now live worldwide on the Nintendo eShop. The demo includes a range of quick play events for one to two players, including two 8-bit style events themed around the 1964 Olympic Games.

Each event also features a variety of control options, including buttons-only, or motion controls with the choice of single or dual Joy-Cons. The demo also supports local play over Wi-Fi, which is nice.

Here’s the full list of included events.

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 demo events

Tokyo 2020 events

  • 110m Hurdles
  • Archery
  • Badminton
  • Karate
  • Surfing

Tokyo 1964 retro events

  • 10m platform
  • Long Jump

It’s jolly good fun, especially in multiplayer. The retro events, in particular, make us misty-eyed for the era of Track & Field and Daley Thompson’s Decathlon.

The full game is released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on November 8, 2019.
