Konami has given Zone of the Enders 2 a release date of September 6th, for PlayStation 4 and on Steam.

After being delayed back in March, the release date is now set for the cult classic.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about the remaster – aside from its bizarre name: Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner – Mars – is that it includes full VR support.

This means that for PSVR and for PC devices, the entire game will be playable in virtual reality. Moreover, there are extra features available for VR, such as a 3D model viewer; a cinematic theatre, allowing you to re-watch cut-scenes in VR; and a Jehuty hangar, where you can mooch about with the game’s mechs.

Check the comparison trailer below to see how the new version of Zone of the Enders 2 stacks up against the original, and also the HD remaster, released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 as part of the Zone of the Enders HD Collection, in 2012.

4K support will likely be enough to tempt fans, and owners of the HD collection back for a second go-round.

For everyone else, it’s an interesting opportunity to play an underrated classic created by Hideo Kojima.
