Returnal and Genshin Impact headline this week’s lineup of new PlayStation Store releases.
Returnal – a sci-fi third-person shooter with roguelike and psychological horror elements from Housemarque – is this week’s PlayStation release highlight. The description is a mouthful, but the time-loop premise of this PlayStation 5 exclusive is instantly engaging. The studio’s pedigree is impeccable, and the game’s next-gen credentials are evident throughout. Returnal looks like one to savour.
Action RPG Genshin Impact is another PS5 release sure to make a splash. MiHoYo’s game might look like a Breath of the Wild clone, but smartly designed multi-character combat and elemental skill systems give it a distinct identity. Even the gacha mechanics are not totally obnoxious.
Other PlayStation Store releases to look out for include the promising Star Wars Pinball VR and sci-fi shooter ’em up, R-Type Final 2.
PS5 owners looking forward to Terminator: Resistance will have to be patient a little longer. The release of the game’s next-gen upgrade has been postponed.
